On Saturday, Real Madrid played Valencia to a 2-2 tie. Carlo Ancelotti stated that an “unprecedented” officiating decision resulted in the disqualification of a goal scored by Jude Bellingham that would have been the game-winning goal in the final seconds of the match.

After a half-hour of play at Mestalla, Valencia took a 2-0 lead with goals from Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk. Vincius Junior, who scored for Madrid in the same stadium where he had endured racial abuse the previous season, came back with a brace.

Watch it live on ESPN+, as well as La Liga and the Bundesliga (United States).

When Bellingham attempted to take all three points by heading Brahim Díaz’s cross into the net in the ninth minute of added time, he was under the impression that he had done so. However, the referee, Jesús Gil Manzano, made the decision to blow the full-time whistle while the ball was still in orbit.

The referee’s report stated that the England midfielder had displayed an “aggressive attitude” and repeatedly shouted, “It’s an f—ing goal.” As a result of his dispute with the decision, the captain of the England team was dismissed from the game.

I don’t have anything to say about this. During his post-match press conference, Ancelotti stated that something that had never happened before had occurred. “We were in possession of the situation. When Valencia has possession of the ball, the play ought to come to an end.

Unprecedented in every way. My experience has never been like that. The red card that Bellingham received irritated us. There was no offence that he uttered. In English, he uttered the words “it’s an f—ing goal,” but he was simply expressing what we were all thinking to begin with. The referee permitted play to continue. It seems to me that he made a mistake.

Bellingham was very clear in what he said,” Ancelotti continued. After everything that took place, it is not surprising that he took such a strong stance in his response. It was in no way an insult—not even close.

The result of the match was a stalemate, which means that Real Madrid is now seven points ahead of their nearest competitors in the La Liga league. Girona and Barcelona are both scheduled to play on Sunday.

“We’ll look at the table, and we’ll sleep well,” Ancelotti stated just before going to bed.

The two goals scored by Vinícius occurred after he was dismissed from the game in May 2023, when Madrid was defeated in the same match. During the game, the Brazil international was also subjected to racial abuse from a group of fans who were at the stadium.

Three individuals have been accused of insulting the player since their race. The player provided testimony in the case through a video link in October of last year.

Vinícius, speaking to Real Madrid TV on Saturday, expressed that the game was quite challenging. The experience of playing away from home is always challenging. Despite having two goals down, we were able to tie the game. At the end of the day, we were unable to win because they did not let us.
