Considering Virat Kohli’s absence from the current Test series against England due to personal issues, the renowned Sunil Gavaskar recently pondered whether the star batter would participate in the forthcoming Indian Premier League.

In just over twenty days, the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin. On March 22 in Chennai, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, featuring Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, will take on MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings in the tournament’s opening match. The great Sunil Gavaskar recently pondered whether star batter Virat Kohli would participate in the forthcoming Indian Premier League, given that the latter is currently not participating in the Test series against England due to personal issues.

The RCB star withdrew from the Indian Test squad just before the first match in Hyderabad, despite being chosen for the squad to face England. The cricketer and his wife, Anushka Sharma, welcomed their second child earlier this month.

“So, what’s the deal? I don’t see him playing in the IPL at all, you know, for whatever reason. In response to the question of whether Virat Kohli would be eager to score runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) upon his comeback from a lengthy absence, Gavaskar played it somewhat cheekily.

Now AB de Villiers, a legend at RCB and a longtime colleague of Kohli’s, has dropped a hint that the Indian skipper would attend the IPL.

“Nothing confirmed yet,” AB de Villiers replied when asked whether he would be present with the RCB squad members during the IPL. Virat Kohli has dropped hints that he might like it if I dropped by to hang out with him and maybe even the batter. So far, no confirmation. Andy Flower, Faf, and the rest of the squad should make the call, in my opinion. But for the time being, all I can say is that I will be in Mumbai for the initial weeks of the IPL. Please tune in to our live feeds since I will be providing some comments. According to de Villiers’ YouTube account, he will return for the knockout stages.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, India should be happy with their victory over England, especially because they were missing some of their best players.

India won fantastically in Australia three years ago, even though they were missing several key players. This was true at Gabba. They were all out for 36 in Adelaide, but they came back to win in Melbourne and draw in Sydney. They fought valiantly to save the Sydney Test match. India might have also won that match if Rishabh Pant had been on the crease for thirty minutes longer.

“However, this time around against England, the heart and application that the young Indian players displayed during that tour to Australia were still evident,” Gavaskar remarked.
You don’t need famous people, which is why I constantly tell people that. Whether you’re present or not, these two series have proven that India can win even without a famous player. A team game is cricket. It is not dependent on a single person.

The team’s management under Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid deserves credit. These coaches gave young athletes opportunities, shaped them, and encouraged them to play their natural game. Whether we have famous athletes or not, what matters is that our players have large hearts; that’s what will determine our success.
