LOS ANGELES – LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score at least 40,000 points during the regular season, despite the Lakers losing to the Denver Nuggets by a score of 124-114 on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena. This accomplishment happened on a night that was bittersweet.
With the Lakers (33-29) in the lead for the majority of Saturday, it appeared as though James’ milestone was going to be achieved in the context of a victory.
In spite of this, the Nuggets (42-19) were able to dominate the latter part of the game, finishing the fourth quarter on a 16-4 run to secure their sixth straight victory and complete a 3-0 regular-season sweep of the Lakers throughout the course of the game.

Another record has been added to the already amazing collection of NBA records held by the King.
Including the four-game sweep that occurred in the Western Conference finals of the previous season, the Nuggets have defeated the Lakers in each of their last eight matches against them.
“The game is always won for them in the last two or three minutes of the game,” said Anthony Davis. “They are always determined to win.” “The same conduct. Along with our assistance, they frequently left us in a state of uncertainty. We are either providing too much assistance or not providing enough assistance to them in the final handful of minutes before they receive their fourth-quarter package. This team is the one that consistently forces us to make amends for our errors.
James has been the focus of attention in the basketball world for the second time in a little over a year. This time, the attention is focused on him. In February of 2023, the King overcame another Lakers star, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, to become the all-time leader in career points. This accomplishment allowed him to become the all-time leader.
In the history of the National Basketball Association, Abdul-Jabbar holds the position of second with 38,387 career points. Kobe Bryant, another legendary player from Los Angeles, is ranked fourth on the list with 33,463 points.
With his 1,475th game of his career, James reached the milestone of 40,000 points scored. To provide a point of comparison, it took Abdul-Jabbar 1,560 competitions to obtain his accomplishment.
In addition, James holds the record for the most consecutive games in which he scored at least ten points, having accomplished this feat in 1,161 consecutive games without missing a single game.
James expressed his thoughts to the media after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Washington Wizards by a score of 134-131 in overtime on Thursday.
“No, I never even considered the possibility of breaking the scoring record. He stated that it was a natural-occurring occurrence. I performed the game in the appropriate manner, went out and played the game, and allowed the game to come to me. As a result, the scoring record was something that happened naturally for me. To say that I wanted to be the player with the most points in league history was not something I had in mind when I first started playing in the league. As for me, I’m continuing to play. It is going to continue to go up until I am finished playing because I still can score the ball.
There are four NBA championships that James has won, including one with the Lakers in the year 2020. Additionally, the future Hall of Famer has been named to the All-NBA First Team thirteen times, won four NBA Finals Most Valuable Player awards, and taken home four regular season MVP awards.
