Kendrick Lamar’s “6:16 in LA” Disses Drake Again
A mere three days after his first diss track, “Euphoria,” Kendrick Lamar has taken another shot at Drake. The new song “6:16 in LA” parodies Drake’s well-known, reflective “timestamp songs,” such as “4 PM in Calabasas” (2013) and “8 AM in Charlotte” (2023).
Lamar took aim at Drake’s OVO team in the new song, which he released on Instagram on Friday at 9 a.m. ET (“Have you ever imagined that OVO was workin’ for me? / Fake bully, I hate bullies, you must be a horrible person / Everyone in your squad is whispering that you deserve it”) and references one of his viral hits (“Can’t ‘Toosie Slide’ out of this one / it’s just going to resurface”).
As Lamar subsequently raps, “If you were street smart, then you would have caught that your entourage is only to hustle you/AA hunnid nā-s that you got on salary, and 20 of ’em want you as a casualty,” Drake’s entourage of hangers-on becomes a recurring topic throughout the song.
Have you ever imagined that OVO was a part of my team? On record, Kendrick warns Drake, “Fake bully; I despise bullies; you must be a ba”Everyone on your team is whispering that you deserve it. Toosie, are you unable to escape this one? It will resurface.”esurface.”
Kendrick mentions Drake’s 2020 TikTok trend attempt, “Toosie Slide,” in response to criticisms Kendrick made on “Euphoria,” saying, “I make music that electrifies ’em; you make music that pacifies ’em; I can double down on that line, but spare you this time; that’s random acts of kindness.”
Drake mentioned “Euphoria” in an Instagram Story shortly after its release. In response to Kendrick’s declaration, “I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, and the way that you dress,” Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You delivers the well-known monologue that follows the same pattern: “I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair.” Your driving in my car is disgusting. You stare at me; I detest your large, stupid combat boots and your ability to read my thoughts.
Noting Drake’s penchant for memes, Kendrick raps on “6:16 in LA.” “Your dishonesty with Zack Bia and Twitter bots is exposing the truth, and your insignificant memes are losing traction; they have discovered your deceit.” The song also mentions DJ Akademics, a prominent figure in rap media. Drake dropped the Kendrick Diss song “Taylor Made Freestyle” last week in the background. Drake texted Akademics after the song’s release, saying, “I was waiting on Kendrick for years to go first… then I could actually drop,” before Tupac’s estate’s fear of legal action forced its removal. Niger’s actions disrupted my entire Feng shui, just as I was trying to relax after my tour.
The first incident involving Lamar and Drake was when the former attacked Drake and J. Cole in a March verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That.” Cole responded by removing his diss track, “7 Minute Drill,” from streaming services shortly after its release. Drake also uploaded two diss tracks, “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” but his estate removed the latter from streaming services due to its inclusion of a 2Pac AI performance and threats of legal action.
